Sardis Park
January 1st to 8th 2010
When we have a clear day and a few extra minutes, Sardis Park is a short, quick drive and a short walk in a great little park with wonderful people, animals and birds.
American Coots are easily found at this time of year; they are roughly 16 inches (40 cm) long and weigh around 1.5 lb (0.65 kg). They are omivorous and eat both plants and fish among other things.
A Goldeneye was seen on the pond on one afternoon.
Canada and Cackling Geese are almost always on or near the pond at this time of year.
Pied-billed Grebes can be found here too.
A Cooper’s Hawk was busy hunting in the trees surrounding the pond.
A Great Blue Heron spends some time at the pond fishing.
Common Mergansers also like to fish this pond.
Mountains in the distance are lovely photographic subjects.
A few Lesser Scaups were swimming the pond and came for a closer look at us on a couple of days.
Northern Shovelers were circling each other while stirring up whatever interesting food was available. One seemed to do something that made another chase it away for a minute.
American Wigeon are always found there as well. They are often in very large flocks wherever they are found.
We are not authorities on birds, wildlife, plants, cameras or photography, if you are doing research on any subjects, please refer to a more educational site for advice and double-check whatever you research.
