Great Blue Herons
May 25, 2010
We stopped at the Heronry to see how the young chicks are doing; they are all growing rapidly. We enjoyed watching a frenzied feeding session with four chicks and an adult. The chicks were all bedded down for a nap in the nest when the adult returned with lunch, their heads all popped up at once like a hydra eager to get first serving. When the adult had finished feeding the chicks, it hopped up to a branch above them causing more commotion as the chicks all searched the branches above for their parent.
