Great Blue Heron Nature Reserve
May 26, 2010

A spring-time walk at the Great Blue Heron Nature Reserve is full of yellow-coloured birds and a lot of activity, you just have to take your time, walk quietly and maybe stop at a bench to see what happens.

A Bald Eagle flew overhead with a load of grass for its nest while we stood talking to Wayne about “of all things” Bald Eagles.

American Goldfinches searching for a quick snack, unrolled leaves with caterpillars hidden deep inside.

A Great Blue Heron fished for lunch and ruffled its feathers after the meal.

A female Rufous Hummingbird stopped to preen on a branch with a lot of light behind it.

American Robins are constantly around now.

Cedar Waxwings exchanged gifts and checked the Lonicera berries for ripeness.

Male Yellow Warblers competed with songs while a female stopped for a few seconds in her search for insects for her nestlings.

A male Common Yellowthroat Warbler contributed to the work-load of feeding nestlings with many insects and caterpillars.

We stopped in at the Rotary Interpretive Centre for a chat with Janet, Cynthia and Dillon before heading home.
