Great Blue Heron Nature Reserve
June 3rd 2010

The weather has improved immensely and we enjoyed a walk around the paths at the Great Blue Heron Nature Reserve with blue skies for a change.

Achillea flowers are starting to bloom.

A Willow Flycatcher perched on one of its favourite perches, an overhead wire, where it sang and waited and sang some more.

A male American Goldfinch brightened the day, we see them regularly now.

A small dark cloud in the distance was the backdrop for an encounter between two Red-tailed Hawks and several Crows and Ravens.

Two male Mallards enjoyed a peaceful moment behind the East Bird Blind.

The Muskrats swam toward us in muddy water from all the rain, Salwein Creek while we stood on the bridge watching.

The little Ruddy Duck was paddling beside the East Bird Blind and decided to have a nap after the pelting rains of last night.

Barn Swallows and Northern Rough-winged Swallows used the overhead wires to rest between flights for insects.

A Turtle rested on a log at the East Bird Blind.

A little female Common Yellowthroat busied herself looking for food for her young near the edge of the North Lagoon.

Cedar Waxwings entertained us all along the Salwein Creek and two flew into a Cedar Tree at the edge of the North Lagoon near the main bridge.

We stopped in at the Rotary Interpretive Centre for a quick visit with Muriel and waved to Bill and Jenny on their way out for a walk.
