Manning Park
July 8, 2010

We took a drive up to Manning Park for a walk along the Paintbrush Trail today. The weather was extremely warm so we were prepared with extra water and fruit juices.

The scenery at the Cascade Lookout and further up the switchback road to the parking lot and beyond was absolutely breathtaking.

Wildflowers were blooming profusely along the roadsides and in the alpine meadows.

Chipmunks were seen in several locations.

Clark’s Nutcrackers were ready to greet any new person at the Cascade Lookout parking.

A pair of Ravens watched from a snag at the Cascade Lookout.

A Cascade Golden-mantled Ground Squirrel is the self-designated tourist greeter at the Cascade Lookout and was extremely disappointed in us when we didn’t feed him.

At the bottom of the hill, we took another walk at Beaver Pond; even though it was extremely warm, we found a few birds and a squirrel.

Dark-eyed Juncos were using the shade of the evergreens.

More Wildflowers were blooming along the pathways. It is important to remember not to stray from the paths while walking because a lot of the plants are not showing all the time and they can be injured if walked upon.

Dragonflies were found over the water.

The Red-breasted Sapsuckers were still busy finding insects for their young.

A Red Squirrel used the shade of a tree to search for food.
