Great Blue Heron Nature Reserve
August 17th to 20th 2010

We always enjoy our walks at the Great Blue Heron Nature Reserve, at the moment the weather here is very hot and dry, so we are hoping for rain one day soon.

There are three or four Green Herons at the lagoons at the moment; sometimes we are lucky enough to see one or two of them.

Downy Woodpeckers were found in the depths of the forest on the Salwein Creek Loop.

Flycatchers are still finding enough insects to keep them happy.

A Black-headed Grosbeak performed some weird contortions to get at an insect.

Great Blue Herons are around the lagoons if you know where to look.

Cottontail Rabbits stop us in our tracks until they move out of the way.

American Robins were sunning in groups; almost as if they were playing Simon Says. Young Robins were found along paths and in the trees.

A rather over-worked Song Sparrow tried to find enough insects to feed its demanding adopted Cowbird fledgling.

A few Cedar Waxwings were found along the paths.

Wood Ducks rested on logs; first they were reflected in the lagoon before getting close together to resemble a two headed beast.

Warbling Vireos were part of a large flock including warblers.

Migrating warblers passing through on their journey south were Orange-crowned Warblers, Yellow Warblers, Wilson’s Warblers and MacGillivray’s Warblers. We find this time of year fun because of these lovely energetic little birds.

We stopped in at the Rotary Interpretive Centre for visits with Janet, Ivy, John, Mike, Val, Barb, Michelle, Muriel, Dylan, Alice, Muriel and Walter.
