Sardis Park
We always take a few walks around Sardis Park when we get the chance; it is a lovely park to visit and is always full of life.
This month was no exception with hundreds of Cackling Geese; looking around we could find a few Canada Geese standing out as much larger versions of them.
In the parking lot, under the Catalpa trees, we found dozens of the tree seed pods standing upright in the grass.
We saw several Common Mergansers over the month; one morning there was a scuffle over a newly captured fish.
American Coots are easy to get close photos of here.
As a matter of fact, it is easy to get close photos of most of the ducks and waterfowl on the pond. These Pied-billed Grebes were willing to pose for us.
The pond had ice on it one morning and we took some of the Gulls standing around and coming in to land.
One morning a Cooper’s Hawk watched over the little song birds near the edge of the pond.
We saw a few Hooded Mergansers at the pond over the month.
Mallards are always ready to pose for us here.
We love watching the Northern Shovelers as they skim the pond for food.
American Wigeon are always available here for photos at this time of year.
We found several Northern Pintails over the past month here.
A young Snow Goose was very co-operative, letting us take several photos one morning. Later in the week we were happy to find an adult Snow Goose as well.
It is always nice to find Linda at the park, she is very knowledgeable and we enjoy talking to her.
