March, 2014

March 27th to 31st 2014

We are home again where we take our usual walks at the Great Blue Heron Nature Reserve.

A few Double-crested Cormorants are still on both lagoons.

We saw the resident Bald Eagles every day.

Black-capped Chickadees were around the Salwein Creek.

Bufflehead Ducks were paddling on the lagoons.

An American Coot was an unusual visitor.

A Downy Woodpecker was near the Rotary Interpretive Centre.

Fox Sparrows were seen on the paths looking for tree seeds.

Gadwalls were behind the East Bird Blind.

Pied-billed Grebes were on both lagoons.

A male Green-winged Teal was on the lagoon in front of the East Bird Blind.

A female Mallard crossed with a domestic duck was seen in the same area.

Common Mergansers were in front of the Rotary Interpretive Centre.

A female Ring-necked Duck paddled past the windows of the East Bird Blind.

American Robins were very colourful.

Red-winged Blackbirds were seen more often.

Song Sparrows were seen near the Salwein Creek.

American Wigeon were at the East Bird Blind.

Wood Ducks were found in the slough below the Heronry and seen arguing over nesting holes in dead trees.

The White-throated Sparrows were seen near the Salwein Creek.

We stopped in at the Rotary Interpretive Centre and visited with Val, Janet, Barb, Marilyn, Jean, Alice, Muriel, Eileen, Billie, Maureen, Leon, Gordon and Dick. We also enjoyed visiting with Camille, Larry, Dave, Jenny, Bill, Leona, Werner, Bene, Rod, Rick and Dean on the trails.
