August, 2016

August 9th & 10th 2016

We had two very enjoyable walks at the Great Blue Heron Nature Reserve in Chilliwack, B.C., Canada.

A flock of Bushtits converged on the fence at the parking lot when we arrived.

A flock of Killdeer were seen in the farm field across Sinclair Road.

Beavers were seen still repairing their lodge, while others were seen on the shore enjoying a nice meal of grass and smart weed. Another was seen further down the trail nicely hidden in Water Lily leaves. We only noticed it because a Muskrat was swimming nearby attracting attention to the area.

A Brown Creeper marched up an old snag.

The adult Ospreys brought home a fish breakfast for the young siblings.

A Peregrine flew too close to the nest and was chased off to land in the distance and watch for more trouble.

Two adult and one juvenile Western Kingbirds were seen at the far end of the road past the Heronry.

We enjoyed talking to Leona, Terry with Bogey, Charlie with Jack, Alyson with Chesney, David and Frank as well as John LeFlock the resident artist. John teaches some wonderful art classes to children and adults. He is an accomplished and talented artist. The Discovery Classroom is where to find him when he is working. Check the Great Blue Heron Nature Reserve’s website on our links page to find when you can take a class from him.
