February, 2017

February 26th to 28th 2017

We enjoyed our usual walks at the Great Blue Heron Nature Reserve in Chilliwack, British Columbia, Canada.

American Wigeon were seen from the East Bird Blind.

Double-crested Cormorants were on their usual logs every day.

Buffleheads were seen while the snow started to fall.

Gadwalls were seen on both lagoons, one on the South Lagoon was almost in the far centre while one landed on the North Lagoon while the snow was increasing.

Common Mergansers were paddling past in the distance as well.

Canada Geese were seen on the North Lagoon and other areas.

The Great Blue Herons were starting to gather again after the setback of workers cleaning up the debris from all the storms. Now, there is snow and they will go back to the fields to come again when the weather improves.

Wood Ducks paddled along near the Heronry.

A Trumpeter Swan has been seen for a few days on the North Lagoon.

Spotted Towhees were seen in many areas.

An American Robin perched on a broken Birch tree branch.

Ring-necked Ducks paddled past.

Mallards were seen in the marshes.

Song Sparrows watched us carefully.

Dark-eyed Juncos were seen along the way every day.

Golden-crowned and White-crowned Sparrows paused for a moment in the snow.

Black-capped Chickadees were surrounded by snow on the branches.
