April, 2018

April 5th & 6th 2018

We enjoyed our usual walks at the Great Blue Heron Nature Reserve in Chilliwack, British Columbia, Canada.

We found a lone Double-crested Cormorant near the Heronry but most of the Double-crested Cormorants have left for their nesting grounds.

A Beaver swam past as we watched.

Green-winged Teals were seen as well.

Great Blue Herons were foraging in the farm fields or spending time gathering material for nests.

A female American Kestrel was seen.

Ring-necked Ducks are leaving for nesting grounds soon.

American Robins were gathering nesting materials and singing.

Large mixed flocks of Swallow were seen along the way. Northern Rough-winged and Violet-green Swallows were in the flocks. There were quite a few Tree Swallows in the flocks as well. A fairly good-sized group of Tree Swallows with a few Violet-green Swallows were sitting on the road trying to avoid the weather.

Wood Ducks were checking out snags for nesting holes.

Weather
April 05 Rain 42F (5.5C) Afternoon 50.9F (10.5C)
April 06 Rain 42F (5.5C) Afternoon 62.6F (17C)

We always enjoy seeing Sandra with Jasmine and Shadow, Alyson with Chesney, Margaret Ann and Kevin, Charlie with Jack, Terry with Bogie as well as John Larsen on the trails.
