Our walk around the Great Blue Heron Nature Reserve today was fun to say the least. We watched a Bald Eagle soaring overhead.

A Hooded Merganser was busy fishing on the North Lagoon.

When we heard the Black-capped Chickadees we knew we were in the right spot to find song birds and stopped for a moment to let the birds get used to our presence.

Soon, Song Sparrows hopped out from their hiding places and a Golden-crowned Sparrow peeked out from a Red-Osier Dogwood and another one landed nearby.

House Finches showed themselves from the upper canopy of the trees.

A Ruby-crowned Kinglet hopped around with a flock of Yellow-rumped Warblers searching for insects under every leaf in the Alder trees.

A Bewick’s Wren scolded us and hopped out into view often to let us know that it was watching us.

The sky was full of Steller’s Jays flying back and forth from the nearby Hazelnut grove; they carried their prizes to hide them for their winter food.

A family of Brown Creepers crept up and around tree trunks giving up a wonderful opportunity to get photos.

Bruce came up with the winner today; he spotted what we think is a Swamp Sparrow feeding on the pathway and we were delighted with this wonderful little bird.

We headed up to the Rotary Interpretive Centre and had a nice visit with Val and Pearl before heading home. Have a good weekend; it looks like we are going to have good weather for it.
