May, 2015

May 29th to 31st 2015

We had two more interesting walks at the Great Blue Heron Nature Reserve.

The resident Bald Eagles were surprisingly not chasing away a young, nomadic Bald Eagle which had something to eat in the farm field across from the Heronry. As a matter of interest, they seemed to share in its good fortune.

A Willow Flycatcher was seen nearby.

A Canada Goose and goslings were seen near the far end of the road past the Heronry.

The Ospreys were changing nest duties when we walked past.

A young Cottontail Rabbit was seen near the South Lagoon.

Red-winged Blackbirds are usually seen in good numbers.

Cedar Waxwings were seen at the far end of the road past the Heronry, trying to collect nesting material from a tangled fishing line on the overhead wires at the main bridge and several other areas.

A female Yellow Warbler was seen in the distance at the main bridge one morning and seen collecting nesting material on the main bridge the next day.

We enjoyed chatting with Ann, Karen and Janet P. doing a bird count, Rick and Tanya taking photos, Leona and Werner while we were putting up some of our photos in the Rotary Interpretive Centre Gift Shop for display, Cliff Jury from the local wild bird store, Dean taking photos, Sandra with Izzy, Alfred, Dave, Brenda with Finnegan, Casey with Ula, Pat with Maggie, Denise with Summer on the trails and Gordon in the Rotary Interpretive Centre.

We took a walk along the Lickman Dike Road where we saw the usual suspects.

American Robins on fence posts.

Common Yellowthroats.

Male and female Lazuli Buntings.

We enjoyed chatting with Barb and Jeff with Flash and Teal and Tracy with Whitey and Doug on this trail.
